Google Documents Regional Search Differences: What APAC SEO Teams Must Separate
Google’s new regional Search guide separates feature eligibility across the EEA, Türkiye and South Africa. APAC teams should govern shared data globally while validating SERP features market by market.
NEWS · AI SEARCH LABGoogle published a new Search Central guide on September 8, 2026 that documents regional differences in Search experiences. It distinguishes aggregator and supplier units, ecosystem carousels, job and places-site features, badges and structured-data carousels across the EEA, Türkiye and South Africa. The practical lesson for an APAC program is not that these exact features launched in Korea, Japan or other APAC markets. It is that a shared technical standard must be paired with market-specific eligibility checks. Global teams should not present an overseas result format as a confirmed local feature or promise visibility from markup alone.
What did Google publish?
Google’s documentation update log says the new guide was added to help publishers, businesses and aggregators understand which regional features are available and how eligibility works. The interactive guide asks for a company’s base region and relevant query type, then displays applicable feature categories.
The official table lists aggregator and direct-supplier units in the EEA for hotels, flights, ground transport and products. It also lists ecosystem carousels for weather, sports, finance and translation, as well as job-site features in the EEA. Türkiye has places-site features for hotels and local businesses. South Africa has a business badge and refinement chip for selected travel, product, car-hire, food-delivery and transport queries.
Structured-data carousels also differ by market and vertical. The guide lists different coverage across the EEA, South Africa and Türkiye for hotels, local businesses, things to do, products, transport, flights and vacation rentals. Implementing valid markup can support eligibility; it does not guarantee appearance.
What should APAC teams not infer?
Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, India and Australia are not listed as markets for the specific feature set in this guide. That does not state that those countries have no special Search experiences. It means teams must not transfer the listed eligibility or result appearance to an unlisted market without separate evidence.
This documentation update is also not described as a general ranking-system change or an AI Mode algorithm update. Its confirmed scope is a new guide to regional Search experiences and participation requirements. Any effect on organic traffic, AI Overviews or AI Mode should be measured separately.
Why does this matter for GEO and AEO?
AI answers may draw from web sources and search experiences that differ by market. When supplier, aggregator, product, travel or local modules differ, the candidate set and evidence available to users can also differ. A single English page and one universal schema checklist therefore cannot represent every APAC search journey.

Use a shared entity and data model, but maintain a country-level matrix for query intent, platforms, feature availability, eligibility, official evidence and last verification date. In Korea, this means observing NAVER AI탭 and AI 브리핑, ChatGPT search and commerce journeys alongside Google. In Japan, local query language and trust signals require separate validation.
What operating model works for one APAC agency?
Global headquarters should own canonical corporate facts, product and service identifiers, Schema.org policy, measurement definitions and prohibited claims. Local teams should own actual SERP observations, language-specific intent, regulation and commercial accuracy. The APAC partner should surface market differences instead of forcing identical implementation.
- Common layer: entity IDs, factual sources, schema policy, data quality and KPI definitions.
- Market layer: feature availability, query sets, platform mix, legal context and local conversion paths.
- Evidence layer: official source, observed date, screenshot or test record and accountable reviewer.
What should enterprise, healthcare and commerce teams do now?
Enterprises should create a market-feature register before adding new markup at scale. Healthcare networks should verify clinician, department, location and opening-hour facts across websites, business profiles and local platforms before pursuing a carousel appearance. Medical claims remain subject to local review regardless of technical eligibility.
Commerce and travel companies should distinguish direct supplier, aggregator and comparison-service roles. Align page content, structured data, Merchant Center or travel feeds, inventory and booking systems. Do not sell “guaranteed carousel” or “guaranteed AI recommendation” services. Track eligibility, actual appearance, qualified traffic and conversion as separate stages.
APAC execution checklist
- List every operating market and high-value query category.
- Check official Google documentation for applicable regional features.
- Record whether the business is a direct supplier, aggregator or content provider.
- Compare visible content, structured data, feeds and transaction systems.
- Test Google, NAVER and AI answer surfaces separately where relevant.
- Record the official source, last observed date and responsible local reviewer.
- Separate eligibility from appearance, and appearance from commercial impact.
AI Search Lab view
The update reinforces a core principle of APAC GEO, AEO and SEO: centralize reliable facts, not assumptions about identical search interfaces. A regional agency creates value by governing shared data and measurement while preserving accountable local validation across Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, India and Australia.
